Designing with the Blues

June 30, 2017

Lightening doesn’t strike twice, but in their case, it will. They're back at it again. Dustin Douglas & The Electric Gentlemen are releasing a new album. BLUES I will be their second album. They will release the new ep exclusively on July 8 @briggsfarmblues festival. The EP will be available the following week on #itunes, #Spotify and #applemusic and all other major online distributors as well as @galleryofsound and @musicgoroundwilkesbarre.

Although Dustin has been a long time friend, I started working with him while he was putting together his solo album Black Skies and Starlight in 2014. We did the album design, promo materials, and merchandise. It was soon after he picked up Tommy Smallcomb and Matt “The Dane” Gabriel to start Dustin Douglas and the Electric Gentlemen who, from now on, I will refer to as DDEG…because it’s easier to type. Not too long after the band had formed DDEG tasked me with designing their logo.

And the Boltman was born!

I had several different ideas, but in the end there was only one way to go, and Boltman was it! From tee-shirts to hats, stickers and even the guitar picks, Boltman is everywhere. There is even a line of holiday versions now.

After all was said and done. They wasted no time hitting the studio. We were designing the premier album, promos and merch. But that’s history…

Let’s talk about NOW…

We just finished putting together the DDEG BLUES 1 Album. The photo shoot we did for the album and upcoming promos went great. With classic cars, guitars, and a great location, you can't lose. We were able to get a ton of great shots. Check out some of them below!

DDEG are a great group of guys with tremendous talent. I look forward to every project we work on together and I'm incredibly thankful for the opportunity.

Autodesk
Sketchbook Pro 6

The pencil and paper of the future

Sitting down and sketching is always a great idea. It gets all of your scrambled thoughts out and on paper. The great part about the pencil and paper is that it literally goes anywhere you do. Sketchbook Pro is a little more difficult to take along with you, but it is just as great a tool for getting those pesky creative bugs out of your brain. You don't necessarily need a Wacom tablet but it definitely feels more familiar if you do. Plus, nobody like drawing with a mouse! Sketchbook Pro has tons of different brushes, mimics a wide variety of mediums, and when set, responds to the pressure you put on the stylus. I absolutely recommend this program to the digital artist as a great illustration tool!

STAEDTLER
Mars Mechanical Pencils

Precision and detail these pencils do it all

This pencil is must have in the art arsenal. Not only can you switch out the lead with different types and softnesses but you can sharpen the lead to a extremely fine point for detailing which make them an extremely useful tool when cleaning up and tightening a graphite piece!

Prismacolor Markers

Serious color comes at a price.

I have been using prismacolor markers since I picked my first one up, which was about 13 years ago. I just fell in love with the color they give me. You can blend and shade like no other markers, and I absolutely love the double ended aspect. The only con is the price. They can get a little pricey, but take my word... you won't look back!

Staedtler Pencils

The TOOLS THAT GET THE JOB DONE.

I absolutely love these things! The lead lays perfectly. Whether I'm working with hard or soft lead, I can always count on these pencils for the quality I'm looking for. Although sometimes I find myself working with the little nubs that were once full length pencils, they never let me down. I have tried other name brands. But for the work that I do, these are the ones I recommend.
